In a press conference yesterday, Information minister Jim Muhwezi said all live broadcast of defiance activities should stop and any media house that continues to cover defiance activities risks having their license revoked.

The press conference was attended by Attorney General Fredrick Ruhindi, his deputy Mr Mwesigwa Rukutana, Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura, Uganda Communications Commission boss Godfrey Mutabazi and managers of different media houses.

Responding to ban, US mission Uganda used its twitter handle to express its disappointment.

“The government of Uganda’s decision to ban media coverage of FDC activities is truly disappointing just days after World Press Freedom Day. Such restrictions violate not just the rights of journalists, but the rights of citizens to information,” the mission tweeted.

Adding; “Citizens of Uganda should be able to decide for themselves what information to use to make informed choices about their country.”

The embassy asked all parties to refrain from violence and intimidation.
