Vipers’ Nigerian tactician Ambrose Duru Chukuma is quite an ambitious coach.
The skilful coach who saw his side move ahead of defending champions KCCA FC into third place on the FUFA Super League log with a point better after securing a barren draw away to Express FC at the Wankulukuku Stadium on Tuesday is looking to ascend the scales and go top.
“This is just the start, after a few upcoming fixtures we shall be in top position I guarantee,” Chukuma told RED Pepper Online in an exclusive telephone interview on Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s important we do well in the early stages and I think the more games we play and, the better chance we’ve got of getting the league,” he added.
Express skipper Willy Kavuma played well in-front of the home fans, but the Vipers team stood strong. The Red Eagles Express as they are popularly known registered their second draw in the league.
“We shall keep working hard to see that we get positive results. “We had the chance to win the game today, but my strikers were very shy at goal,” said Express coach Frank Anyau.
But Uganda Cranes creative midfielder Joseph Mpande who was an unused substitute when Uganda lost 1-0 to Senegal in a battle for progression to the 2014 World Cup qualification playoffs was the difference between the two sides hitting the woodwork twice, chances that would have earned Vipers maximum points away from home.
Chukuma has an eight year coaching experience and has handled teams in both Nigeria and Togo. He first came to Uganda in 2001 as skipper of the Julius Berger FC team that lost 1-0 to SC Villa in the CAF Champions league courtesy of Andrew Mukasa’s solitary strike at Namboole.
In the second league game played at the Lugogo Stadium, Proline FC and Police FC settled for a barren draw. It was the first point for Proline FC from three games played, while Police picked their second point.
Action in the league continues on Friday with six matches on card. Defending champions KCCA FC will face table leaders Soana FC who are yet to suffer defeat.
In the other games on card URA FC will take on Simba, while Entebbe FC battle second placed SC Victoria.
