Watoto Church breaks silence on 6 children, 5 adults testing COVID-19 positive after UK, Canada Choir tour
Kampala – Cell-based Community Church, Watoto – formerly Kampala Pentecostal Church (KPC) – has finally spoken out on the 11 choir members that tested positive of the coronavirus after they returned from UK and Canada.
This development follows COVID-19 update issued by the Director of General Health Services under the Health Ministry, Dr Henry G Mwebesa confirming the 11 cases; rising number to 44 – with no deaths.
“The 11 new confirmed cases were all under institutional quarantine at the time of the test. They presented signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19,” Dr. Mwebesa stressed in a statement.
In a statement issued by Watoto Church Tuesday, March 31, Pr. Julius Rwotionyo disclosed that a fortnight ago the two teams of the Children’s Choirs returned from the United Kingdom and Canada comprising of 12 children and 10 adults each.
“As per Government requirements, both choirs have been quarantined at approved centres in Entebbe since their arrival at Entebbe Airport on March 20, 2020,” read the statement.
The Church’s Associate Team leader further revealed that one of their Adult Chaperones tested positive of COVID-19 on Friday, March 27 and was immediately isolated from the rest; with tests conducted on the other members revealing 3 more adults and 1 child
“Today (Tuesday) March 31, we learned an additional 6 children and 3 adults on the same Choir also tested positive and immediately taken for treatment,” Pr. Rwontionyo disclosed sustaining that Watoto Church was working closely with Ministry of Health and the assigned health workers to follow all the necessary precautions to curb any further spread of the virus.
President Museveni, in his March 31 address, stressed that the country was doing a good job in curbing the further spread of the coronavirus and emphasizing the ban of private transport and curfew in addition to sanctioning the release of impounded cars by Police
“If Ugandans took heed to the guidelines much earlier, stringent measures wouldn’t have been passed. I am told some vehicles were impounded by the stampede of banning private transport stampede.I direct the Police to release impounded vehicles … ebyaliwo byaliwo,” said President Museveni.
