Team Uganda’s medal hunt continued to diminish at the World University Games going on in South Korea.
In Badminton, Ndejje University’s duo of Shamim Bangi and Daisy Nakalyango who are currently Uganda’s seed one and two respectively failed to make it to the next round of the badminton tournament at the Hanium Cultural sports centre, Hwasun.
Shamim Bangi and Daisy Nakalyango lost to Koreans Go Ahra and Yoo Hae 21-4, 21-4.
Uganda’s hope for silverware in the category lowered when Bangi lost 21- 4, 21-12 to Kim Hyomin (Korea).
“We have played the world’s best, it’s a plus for us in terms of gaining experience,” explained Bangi.
In the men’s singles, Ndejje University’s Musisi Yakoub failed to find the cutting edge past Korea’s Jeon Hyeokjin who beat the former 21-4, 21-14.
In the mixed doubles Nakalyango and Herbert Ebayo suffered another blow to Korean pair of Ko Sunghyun and Lee Sohee 21-8, 21-4.
Ebayo and Musisi then went down 21-4, 21-8 to Kim Gijung and Kim Sarang (Korea) in the men’s doubles.
Elsewhere, the ladies basketball team recorded their second loss of the tournament with a 100-55 defeat to Chinese Taipei in group B.
Claire Lamunu scored a game high 24 points.
The ladies basketball team had earlier suffered 128-31 loss to Australia on Sunday.
Dismal results in the Ugandan camp were also seen in swimming as Daisuki Ssegwanyi and Marina Nakimuli failed at the first time in the 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle on Saturday.
