KAMPALA: Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates has marked 10 years in the legal industry with a fresh push for digital innovation, environmental sustainability and stronger protection of investments and family wealth.

The Kampala-based law firm celebrated its decade-long journey on October 20, 2026, unveiling a digital information management system as it set its sights on a bigger role in Uganda’s evolving business and legal landscape.

The Minister of State for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Margaret Muhanga, launched the new system, which is designed to improve case management, accountability, operational efficiency and service delivery to clients.

The innovation marks a new chapter for the firm as it embraces technology to streamline legal operations and strengthen its ability to serve clients.

But the firm’s ambitions stretch beyond technology and courtroom battles.

As it enters its second decade, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates is championing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, urging Ugandan businesses to embrace responsible leadership, environmental protection and accountability as part of everyday business practice.

Chief Executive Partner Deo Kalikumutima said the firm’s success should be measured not only by legal victories but also by the professionals it has nurtured and the lives it has touched.

“When we established this firm, we resolved that our success would be measured not only by the cases we won, but by the people we empowered and the lives we transformed,” he said.

Kalikumutima revealed that more than 200 young lawyers had passed through the firm’s mentorship and clerkship programmes over the past decade, describing their professional growth as one of its proudest achievements.

The firm is also seeking to make ESG principles more practical and accessible to Ugandan businesses, building on its participation as a strategic partner in Uganda’s inaugural National ESG Conference and Expo.

Kalikumutima said the goal was to move businesses beyond compliance paperwork and reporting towards measurable environmental responsibility, ethical leadership and institutional accountability.

The firm launched a public ESG commitment initiative in September and is preparing a training cohort scheduled for January 2027.

Its sustainability drive comes alongside growing work in family business governance, succession planning and wealth preservation, including a partnership with the Association of Uganda Family Business Owners.

The firm says these initiatives are intended to help businesses strengthen governance, preserve wealth and safeguard family enterprises for future generations.

At the anniversary celebration, George Omunyokol, Managing Partner of GP Advocates, challenged lawyers to treat professional development as a lifelong commitment.

“Qualifying to practise law is only the beginning of a lifelong learning journey,” Omunyokol said, emphasising intellectual curiosity, humility, excellence and mentorship.

Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates is also expanding its engagement with Ugandans living abroad, targeting concerns surrounding property transactions, inheritance, investment structuring and cross-border legal representation.

Through engagements with diaspora communities, including the Ugandan North American Association (UNAA), and a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Alliance of Ugandan Canadian Associations (NAUCA), the firm is seeking to strengthen investor confidence among Ugandans in the diaspora.

The firm says its services are aimed at helping diaspora investors protect their interests while navigating legal processes back home.

Founded a decade ago, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates provides legal services in litigation, corporate and commercial advisory, banking and finance, land transactions, investment protection, regulatory compliance and succession planning.

With its digital system now launched and ESG training in the pipeline, the firm says its next decade will focus on combining legal expertise, innovation and responsible business practices to deliver broader societal impact.

Ten years down, the firm is betting on technology, sustainability and stronger investment protection to shape its next chapter.
