3,000 Pilgrims are travelling to Kampala to participate in the Uganda Martyrs Walk, 2014. Independent updates from UTB’s partner radio stations from all corners of Uganda indicate that pilgrims will on arrival in Kampala, camp near Old Kampala Secondary School where the walk commences on 1st June 2014 at 8 AM. .

Partner radio stations airing the walk include Radio Apac in Arua, Eastern Voice in Bugiri, Choice FM, Radio Four and Radio King in Gulu, Hoima FM in Hoima, Bamboo FM, Maranatha Radio, Radio Kira, Voice of Busoga and NBS in Jinja, Link FM in Lyantonde, 92.2 Bushenyi FM, KalisoLiso show on CBS, Kampala and Radio Veros 90.2 FM in Tororo. Uganda Tourism Board has placed all necessary information at Busia, Entebbe International Airport, Mutukula and Katuna borders to enable pilgrims partake in the walk.

Pilgrims are thrilled at the opportunity of listening to experienced tour guides about Mathias Mulumba, Jean Marie Muzeeyi, Mapeera and the three Martyrs killed at Busega.

Professional Tour Guide services are to be provided by Uganda Tourist Guides Association. According to the association’s PRO, Andrew Kijooma, pilgrims should experience how Matia Mulumba, Jean Marie Muzeeyi and other martyrs lived and died.

In addition to professional tour guides, pilgrims will benefit from free medical check-ups provided by Lugogo By-pass based International Medical Link [IML], a company that encourages people to invest in life rather than in lifestyle.

According to the General Manager of IML, the company has inspected the two stop points at Mapeera’s burial monument at Rubaga and at Busega Martyrs Church and is up to the task.

Registration for the walk is going on at the main Post Office and at the National Theatre in Kampala. Pilgrim are also registering by sending 10,000 Uganda Shillings to 0704 731 215 and Mobile Money to 0773 831 825.

Proceeds go to Uganda Heart Institute, Mulago to undertake cardiac operations on children born with Congenital Heart Disease.

Socially responsible organizations such as NBS TV, MTN Uganda, Roofings, Bank of Uganda, Diamond Trust Bank, Sameer, Coca Cola, KCCA, Uganda Communications Commission, NSSF, Turkish Airlines, New Vision, The Red Pepper, The Observer, Bukedde TV, BIC Tours and Travel and staff of Stanbic Bank, Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Uganda Police, Diary of a Mzungu and Fairway Hotel have joined this noble cause to save babies’ lives.

  1. That picture is last year’s, so the caption should have read, pilgrims walking to Namugongo last year. I live in Namugongo and there aren’t many pilgrims yet as your picture depicts. Accuracy in reporting is very important.
