5 Dead In ADF Raid On DRC Health Facility
At least five people have been killed and over 30 others kidnapped in a raid by suspected rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) on a Congolese health centre in the North Kivu province.
The rebels are said to have attacked the health Centre in Maleki near Oicha, west of the provincial Capital of Beni on Sunday September 27.
The incident took place 10 Kilometers from Beni town. Beni is approximately 93kms from Mpondwe border post in Kasese District.
Among those abducted are two nurses who were working at Maleki Health Centre.
Patients at the facility told the DRC military that the rebels tied the two nurses before moving away with them to an unknown destination.
The rebels are also said to have beaten up the patients admitted at the health facility throwing the area into confusion.
Colonel Olivier Hamuli, the Congolese Military spokesperson confirmed that the army was pursuing the rebels to ensure that the kidnapped people are rescued.
Hamuli revealed that the army has also increased its presence in the area to safeguard the locals.
Martin Kobler, the head of the UN peace keeping force in the DRC, MONUSCO, said that the acts of the ADF rebels are uncalled for and aimed at causing serious suffering to the people. Early this month, regional leaders under the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) asked the recently formed UN Intervention Brigade under MONUSCO to attack foreign rebel forces operating in DRC, including the ADF.
This is the second ADF attack in a week. On September 23, suspected ADF killed three people in the Watalinga Sector, North Kivu Province.
Saambili Bamukoka, a local community leader was quoted by the MONUSCO-run Radio Okapi as saying the attacks occurred in the villages of Kombo, N’Dama, Kikura in Watalinga, some 90 kilometers from Beni town.
In July this year, ADF rebels attacked villages in Kamango, North Kivu province displacing up to 60,000 people, most of whom crossed the border into Bundibugyo in Uganda.
I think its time for the international community to support Rwanda and Uganda to wage war against the Interahamwe and the ADF bundints. MONUSCO armies are just smoking bangi and screwing Tusti women instead of doing their mandate.
