Educationist Katsigaire rallies parents, children to embrace TVET Education

The former Rwampara County 2021 MP Aspirant, Elly Katsigaire, has urged parents and the Children especially S.4 and S.6 leavers to stop overlooking Technical Vocational Education and Training(TVET) education as some consider it a place of failures.
Katsigire, who is one of the Directors of Ibanda University and Alliance Vocational Institute, says that most parents have a tendency of neglecting their children after performing poorly in UCE, UACE and leaving them with a difficult life as their hopes of Education fade away.
He observes that most children who do not pursue their academic studies after performing poorly fail to cope up with standards of life which leaves them open to abuse and cut out from engaging in developmental activities.
Katsigire said this shortly after the release of the 2023 UCE results and the PLE results that were released a few weeks ago.
He says that apart from A’Level there are so many other options despite the fact that some people undermine those options like Technical Education.
“Let us stop undermining Technical Education. Some of our people do not know that Technical Education has a big part of science, For example welding, building, plumbing, Motor vehicle mechanics to mention but a few. People overlook these courses as if the people who opt for them are just failures or they are meant for poor people and which is not the case. I must assure you that a number of people have achieved much through Technical Education.
“When someone joins Technical or vocational institutes and opts one of the mentioned courses, they will be able to survive and progress in life. We have more than 14000 students who failed the recent UCE exams; I want to encourage such a category of children that they shouldn’t lose hope even if they scored only F9. This does not determine the end of their future. This does not mean that they can’t go to Technical schools and do practical courses. I therefore emphasize that parents should not keep these children at home simply because they perform poorly, let these children be taken to technical schools and be taught hands-on skills. Of Course we also want to encourage those who performed well that they can also go for technical schools to have skills in the courses of their best choices,” said Katsigire.
Katsigaire is one of the pillars in Western Uganda who has promoted education through constructing schools both Secondary and tertiary institutions not forgetting Universities. He is the Director of Ibanda University in Ibanda District and Ibanda University Rwampara campus, Director Alliance Vocational Institute in Ibanda, Rwampara SS and many others.
As a seasonal politician who is gearing up to contest again for the MP seat Rwampara County against incumbent Amos Kaknkunda come 2026, among his manifesto is to boost education systems in the constituency and the entire District of Rwampara.
