Ugandan body builder Ivan Byekwaso has won a silver medal at the World Natural Body Building and Fitness Championships in the City of Nitra, Slovakia Republic. This event was from 27th June to 28th June 2014.

The 37-year-old overcame spirited competition from top world bodybuilders earning praise from Denny Kakos, President and founder of the International Natural Body Building Association (INBA WORLD) and President Museveni as well.

“Ivan has been a great Ambassador for Uganda and was quick to re-assure us the beauty of the Pearl of Africa,” Denny Kakos said.

“Even though he lost by Just one point, he has been the most loved athlete here and is a great boost for the Olympiad to which we expect him to compete at. Uganda can win the Olympiad a step further from this Silver Medal.”

The Ugandan and East African body building champion’s top three finish will enable the former Mr Uganda earn a ticket to the lucrative World Amateur Body Building Olympiad. This is the Olympic games of body building.

“We’re grateful to all the organizers that gave this event the competitive edge and the sponsors who made it a possible for him to fly the Ugandan flag high,” Kamal Sabuni his manager and agent tells Red Pepper Online.

Byekwaso had trained intensively for months but his efforts had nearly hit a dead end after he failed to raise Shs8m for travel and welfare.

President Museveni gave Byekwaso Shs15M in travel expenses that was provided within 24 hours of contacting him while Desmond Tutu African Leadership Institute Scholar Arinaitwe Rugyendo and Ronnie Makabai of E.T.M International Church among others played a big role in helping the bodybuilder represent Uganda in a long trip to Nitra City, Slovakia for the World meet.

He returns to Uganda leaving on 2nd July aboard Turkish Airlines at 3am.
