BREAKING! Speaker Among Bodyguard Shoots Woman After Car Enters AAA Convoy Near Her Home
Shock and panic gripped Kampala after a dramatic midday shooting near the residence of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, where a female motorist was allegedly shot by a bodyguard after her vehicle entered the Speaker’s convoy.
Red Pepper has learnt the incident reportedly unfolded near Twed Towers Nakasero as the Speaker’s convoy was heading home. Witnesses told Red Pepper the woman, who was driving a Toyota Harrier, found herself caught up in the fast-moving convoy — a move that allegedly triggered a violent reaction from one of the armed escorts.
Gunshots rang out, sending pedestrians and nearby motorists into chaos.
The woman was hit.
In a desperate and shocking turn, the injured woman is said to have abandoned her vehicle at the scene, jumped onto a boda boda, and fled to an unknown hospital as she sought urgent medical attention. Her vehicle, registration number UBQ 038A, was later taken by officers from Uganda Police Force at Wandegeya as investigations began.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the shooting, stating that a police officer was responsible for firing the shot, but admitted that details surrounding the incident are still unclear.
“It is true there was a shooting. She was driving a Toyota Harrier UBQ 038A. She was shot by a police officer. I don’t have all the details right now,” she said, adding that the officer involved will be interrogated as part of ongoing inquiries.
