Residents of Elenderea village in Moyo town council are living in fear of an epidemic outbreak as a result of sewerage that freely flows and floods into the area from Moyo hospital.
The main pipe that transports sewerage from Moyo hospital to its lagoon burst one month ago and started emitting human waste in the open.
Since then, no action has been taken by Moyo hospital and town council to rectify the situation.
“Our children are at risk of catching infections such as cholera,” said Rose Bayoa, a resident of Elenderea village.
Bayoa further said that; “We have cried out loud to the hospital management and the town council to fix the pipe but this has yielded no results.”
Bayoa further explained that a team of district officials visited the burst sewer line to assess the situation three weeks ago, but until now nothing has been done. She also claims that the district asked each residents to contribute shillings 5000 to have the sewer line fixed.
