Death Penalty Must Prevail — M7

The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni says the death sentence should prevail despite pressure from human rights organizations that it should be removed.

The president said this yesterday at Kololo airstrip while passing out 1,548 prisons officers.

The President still believes a death penalty is still necessary in the laws of Uganda since criminal offences are still many.

“I believe in the Old Testament position of an eye for an eye, I don’t support the proposal to abolish the death penalty,” President Museveni said.

Death penalties are supposed to be given to whoever is convicted of capital offences like treason or crimes against humanity.

President Museveni believes those who intentionally kill should be killed too.

Different human rights networks worldwide condemned the establishment of death penalty saying it is too much and infringes the rights to live, suggesting that it should be reduced to at least life imprisonment.

One of the victims of death penalty is the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein who was executed by Americans on 30^th December, 2006 after being convicted of committing crimes against humanity.
