After being sworn in as Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament (MP) early this week, Hon. Anita Annet Among on Wednesday afternoon officially expressed interest to vie for the position of NRM Flag Bearer Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament.

The former vice-chairperson for Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) was accompanied by Budiope East MP-elect and Fufa President Moses Magogo in observance of NRM scientific guidelines to express interest at the party Headquarters at Kyadondo road in Kampala.

Speaking to reporters at the party secretariat shortly after submitting her application, Among disclosed that one of the reasons she wants to chair parliament as deputy speaker is to bring harmony within the three arms of government.

‘’One of the reasons I am standing for that position is to promote the independence of parliament. As you are aware we have three arms of government. My role here is not to fight any arm of government but to work together’’, revealed Among.

Returning to Parliament unopposed for the 11th parliament, Hon. Among added that the country needs someone who can conduct parliament to promote good governance.

‘’Am also passionate about promoting the welfare of MPs because they need to be facilitated to promote the good image of parliament’’, said Among.

This followed the Party EC Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi’s announcement notifying all party legislators interested in contesting for the position of Speaker and deputy to pick forms from the EC office at Kyadondo in Kampala.

Until that time, candidates would campaign in Parliament and vote thereafter without picking interest forms from the party. Candidates would be endorsed by the NRM’s highest organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Hon. Among who is reportedly in the early lead will face other contenders including; David Bahati (Ndorwa West), Robina Rwakoojo (Gomba West), Muhammed Nsereko (Kampala Central), Oboth Oboth (West Budama South), Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North), Theodore Ssekibuko (Lwemiyaga County) and Usuk MP elect, Bosco Okiror.

By press time only Among, among the NRM aspirants had officially expressed interest to run for the position.

Rumor has it that the highly mobilizing Anita Among’s camp is nearly having over 350MPs with more defecting from other groups.

In 2005, Among attained a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting). She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Banking from Uganda Martyrs University and a Master of Business Administration (Accounting) from Makerere University, Bachelor of Laws from Kampala International University obtained in 2018.
