Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s appeal against his life sentence over the deaths of protesters has been accepted by an Egyptian Court that has ordered a retrial of the case.
Hosni Mubarak, 84, was overthrown two years ago after Mass Street protests in the capital Cairo and other cities in what came to be known as the Arab spring.
He was jailed in June on charges of the killing of some 900 protesters during the 2011 uprising that brought the curtains down on his three decades in power.

The two men are likely to remain in custody, however, because of separate cases against them.
Judge Ahmed Ali Abdel Rahman announced: “The court has ruled to accept the appeal filed by the defendants… and orders a retrial.”
The ruling was met with cries of “Long live justice!” by Mubarak supporters who held up his picture and hugged each other in the courtroom while dozens more outside shouted “We love you, president!”
Since Mubarak was jailed, there have been frequent reports about his ill-health.
Mubarak was moved to a Cairo hospital last month after slipping inside a prison bathroom and injuring himself.
No date has been set for the start of their retrial.
This ruling came one day after a prosecutor placed a new detention order on Mubarak over gifts worth millions of Egyptian pounds he and other government officials allegedly received from one of Egypt’s top newspaper as a show of loyalty while he was still at the helm.
The official did not say if any charges were pending over the alleged gifts. He spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to speak to media.
