HANDS TOO DIRTY! NRM CEC kicks out EC boss Tanga Odoi, juniors to get fat pay

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has resolved that Dr. Tanga Odoi step aside from managing the forthcoming Youth elections, following controversy surrounding his son’s recent victory but later nullified by the tribunal.

In its 1st meeting of the 5th CEC held on September 13, 2025, the committee adopted resolutions aimed at streamlining party processes, including leadership accountability and election integrity.

According to the resolutions, CEC directed that:

Voting for Youth and Entrepreneurial elections will take place on Thursday, 18th September 2025, at district level.

The voter register must be released early to candidates, with full involvement of security agencies.

Dr. Odoi will be replaced by Deputy Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Hon. Jachan Omach, alongside other commissioners, to oversee the elections.

The move comes after mounting pressure within party ranks over alleged conflicts of interest and the credibility of youth polls where Odoi’s son emerged winner.

CEC also tasked an ad hoc committee led by top party officials, including Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, and others, to examine remuneration for leaders at lower levels and report back within a month.

Party insiders say Odoi’s ouster is a huge embarrassment, exposing deep cracks inside the NRM power house.

The question now: Can the elections be trusted without more drama?
