Kanyamunyus Finally Committed to High Court for Trial

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that three people accused of the murder of a social worker Kenneth Akena in November 2016 be committed to the High Court for trial.

Matthew Kanyamunyu, his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu and Cynthia Munwangari appeared before Nakawa Grade One magistrate Noah Sajjabi on Tuesday morning.

According to the DPP, there is sufficient evidence to sustain murder charges against the three for the incident.

Prosecution alleges that on November 12, while at Game Stores, Kanyamunyu in company of his girlfriend, allegedly shot Akena whom he accused of scratching his car, and drove him to Norvik hospital where he died from.

His brother Joseph Kanyamunyu is held on condition that the telecom printouts indicated that he was contacted immediately after the incident, which puts him in position to be having some knowledge on the incident.

Joseph Kanyamunyu has also been charged with a second count of being an accessory after the commission of an offence.

The three suspects have been sent back on remand until the next convenient session of the High Court.
