Link Bus Hijacked with 50 Passengers on Board

Police in Kasese are investigating circumstances under which a suspected drunk hijacked a bus belonging to Link Coaches Limited with 50 passengers on board.
Bob Kagarura, the District Police Commander says that the bus registration number UAK 506J which was being loaded at the Shell fuel station in Kasese town at 10 p.m. last night was driven off without the knowledge of its driver.
The captor now identified as Abdallah Imarayaguha, drove the hitherto Kampala bound bus to the opposite route of Kasese-Mbarara road.
He reportedly told the passengers that he was “going to die with them by driving the bus into Kazinga Channel,” Dinah Mwagale Mudusu one of the survivors narrates.
Another survivor who preferred anonymity said she, and several others jumped off the speeding bus after sensing danger. They are now receiving treatment at Bishop Masereka medical center in Kasese town.
Police says the bus was intercepted at a check point at Kikorongo where Imarayaguha was forced to abandon the steering wheel allowing the survivors to continue with the planned journey to Kampala aboard an alternative bus provided by the Link Coaches limited two hours later.
According to Kagarura, Police has since established that the man had just been fired by the same transporter.
He adds that terrorism charges have been preferred against the prime suspect while the genuine bus driver whose particulars are still scanty has also been detained for negligence, DPC Bob Kagarura says.
Management of the Link bus coaches in Kasese has declined to comment on the matter.
