M7 Directs Ham Enterprises To Re-Develop Nakivubo Stadium
President Museveni has offered Nakivubo stadium to Investor Hamis kiggundu who is set to re-development it.
President Museveni revealed this in a letter he sent to the Minister of Education and Sports on Monday March 30 2015.
Museveni’s letter to the Minister of Education Jessica Alupo revealed that the stadium is in a sorry state and it doesn’t qualify to host the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) fixtures.
“I am therefore, directing you to get in touch with Mr. Kiggundu and look at his proposal,” reads Museveni’s letter to Alupo.
Red Pepper online understands Ms Jesca Alupo is organizing a closed meeting with the Chairperson National Council of Sports (NCS) to discuss the matter.
Hamis Kiggundu will wait for the final report of meeting that is to be held in a few days to come.
It is also believed that there are other investors claiming to have signed a deal with Nakivubo stadium Board members to revamp the now rotten stadium.
However, there is a boiling rift between Nakivubo board of trustees headed by Godfrey Mabirizi and other stadium administrators.
Last year the Nakivubo Board of Trustees called a media conference on July 19 where they launched their proposed project of re-developing the stadium and it was to be done in 3 phases. The first phase was to be awarded to Ham Enterprises.
“We signed an agreement with Ham Enterprises for phase 1 and we are proud he is doing a good job in line with the assigned contract,” Mabirizi explained then.
Nakivubo Stadium was first opened in April 1, 1926 and the land where it seat was offered by the then Kabaka of Buganda, Mutesa II.
It was then the official home ground of the Uganda National Football Team, The Cranes before it officially relocated to Namboole in early 2000s.
However, the stadium still hosts CAF sanctioned matches most especially the Under 23 side with the latest being the Uganda Kobs Vs Mozambique in the All Africa Games Qualifiers.
