Museveni said that he would apply a similar method he used in Ankole where he paid the late Prince Barigye for his land and the people who were staying on it are now landlords.

Museveni’s decision to pay off the Prince came after area locals and leaders cried to him over land wrangles in the two villages. Area woman MP Sarah Temulanda told the president that those suffering are mostly bibanja holders.

“Bunjakko land belongs to Prince Mawanda. I am going to talk to the heir and I pay him off for that land so that he leaves my people to settle. I already did this in Ankole where I paid off the late prince Barigye,” he said.

Museveni asked the area RDC to keep his ears on the ground to help people who are being evicted from their land so long as they genuinely possess proof of ownership.

He directed him to report to the minister for presidency in case of any failure to resolve the land conflicts.

“If the minister fails, I will come in like a real fighter. Those so called courts do not operate from heaven. I didn’t fear them,” he said.

Museveni also campaigned in Mawokota North, Butambala and Kyengera in Wakiso district.
