Museveni Lawyers Demand ‘Billions’ as Bobi Wine ‘Plans Fundraiser’

Uganda's president-elect Yoweri Museveni and NUP former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi

Kampala – The lawyers representing President Museveni and the ruling NRM government have told former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) to prepare for costs “in billions of shillings” after withdrawing the petition challenging President Museveni’s election.

Bobi Wine on Monday said he had instructed his lawyers to pull out his election petition from the Supreme Court, citing the court’s alleged bias.

Bobi had asked three judges on the bench including Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo to recuse themselves from his case on grounds that they were biased against him.

The intention to withdraw the petition came barely a week since a forensics report indicated that Bobi Wine’s affidavits filed for the petition were fake and ‘cooked’

A forensic document examiner, a one, Sylvia Chelangat, testified on February 17 that some of the affidavits filed by petition (Bobi Wine) bore fake signature – citing irregularities in loops and strokes.

Chelangat stated that upon receipt of the request, the forensics Document Examiner proceeds to National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to extract the enrolment documents of the persons named in the attachment to the Solicitor General

.Museveni’s legal team has revealed that the law requires the petitioner to pay costs upon withdrawing the case.

“We are warming up for the costs, and they are in billions,” said Museveni’s
lawyer, Hussein Kashillingi.

“We will be putting in our bill,” he added
