EU Envoy Lauds M7 On Regional Peace

The new European Union Envoy, Mr. Krustian Schmidt, has lauded Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for his contribution to regional peace particularly for efforts expended to stabilize conflict-prone Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mr. Krustian Schmidt said this last Friday while presenting his credentials to president Museveni at State House Entebbe.

Seven newly accredited envoys to Uganda presented their credentials to President Yoweri Museveni at separate ceremonies held on the 15th of November 2013 at State House Entebbe.

The new Ambassadors are from the Vatican, the Sudan, France, Egypt, Japan, European Union (EU) and Turkey.

The President warmly welcomed Archbishop Michael A. Blume, who is the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda. He said Uganda is committed to strengthen her relations with the Vatican. The new Nuncio was accompanied by Kampala Archbishop, the Most Rev. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

The President told the new Sudanese Ambassador, Mr. Adil Hussein Sharfi, that Uganda viewed its relations with the Sudan as important and wishes it is taken to a new higher level.

Mr. Museveni requested the new French envoy, Mrs. Siphie Moal-Makame, to woo more French companies to invest in the agricultural and oil sectors of Uganda.

Ambassador Ahmed Abdalaziz Mostafa of Egypt expressed his country’s gratefulness for the support Uganda has extended to the North African country.

The new Japanese envoy, Mr.Junzo Fujita, conveyed a message from Emperor Akihito to President Museveni as well as greetings from the Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Shinzo Abe.

Receiving credentials from Mrs. Ayse Sedef Yavuzalp, the new Turkish Ambassador, President Museveni wished her a fruitful stay in the country. He lauded the good relations that exist between the two countries. He called for consolidation of relations for the benefit of the peoples of Turkey and Uganda.

The President cited the example of bilateral air services and trade agreements that were initiated by the 2 countries in the recent past that have so far seen the volume of trade between the two countries grow in volume. The President said that the joint business council, among others, had tremendously boosted trade between the two countries.

The ceremonies were attended by State Minister for International Affairs Hon. Okello Oryem, among others.
