Parliament Reconstitutes Sessional Committees

The ruling National Resistance Movement –NRM Party has designated new Sessional committees Members as parliament starts official business in its fourth year.  

The Committees are constituted at the beginning of every session of Parliament.

Changes were made to the committee on East African Affairs, The Committee on Education and the committee on Health which have new Leadership.

Kwania County MP Tonny Ayoo is appointed the new chairperson of the Committee on East African Community Affairs replacing Sarah Mwebaza Wenene.  He will be deputized by Kisoro Woman MP Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke who replaces Buyende Woman MP Veronica Babirye Kadogo.

In other changes, Lamwo Woman MP Lanyero Sarah is appointed the new Chairperson of the Committee on Education and Sports replacing Mityana Woman MP Sylvia Namabidde Ssinabulya. Kyaka County MP Ngabo William is the new committee Vice Chairperson on replacing Pallisa County MP Opolot Jacobs.

Maracha Woman MP Lematia Ruth has also been designated as the new Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Health that is chaired by Keberamaido County MP Omona Kenneth. She is replacing Moroto Woman MP Margret Iriama.

David Bahati, the NRM deputy Government Chief Whip explains that the change were in line with a caucus resolution for a two year rotational mentor-ship  for the purpose of tapping into the human resource in the party. He added that the party has also designated Rubabo County MP Mary Paula Turyahikayo to be a member of the Parliamentary pension’s Board.

Meanwhile, The Opposition in Parliament, Independents and UPDF are also expected to designate their membership to the committees later today.
