Rwandese teams arrive Friday|NSSF KAVC Tourney

And as the 17th edition of the NSSF-sponsored KAVC international volleyball tournament throws off this weekend, four Rwandese clubs’ primary goal will be to end that bad spell and claim the men and women’s team titles.

Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (Inatek), Kigali Volleyball club and Rwanda Revenue Authority arrive on Friday by road for the two-day event due on August 10-11.

APR one of the only two Rwandese clubs to have won the event in the last eight years (2005) and National University of Rwanda (women) withdrew from the event.

“We travel to Kampala by bus on Friday morning and our main aim is to bring back the trophies to Kigali,” Inatek coach Dominic Sesonga Ntawanga told Pepper Online in an exclusive from Kigali on Thursday.

“Both our men and women’s teams are strong enough and can beat on any team,” he added.

“We are confident the players we have will do a good job and represent our country well,” Christophe Mukunzi Rwanda senior volleyball national team skipper who also turns out for Inatek put in.

The annual showpiece, formerly referred to as the KAVC Memorial Founders Tournament, takes centre stage this weekend at three venues, namely; Lugogo, MUBS and Namboole.

Teams from Burundi, Kenya, DR Congo and South Sudan have confirmed participation.

In men’s category Sport-S ate the defending champions, while in women KCCA are reigning champions in men’s category. Organisers KAVC have won the tourney five times (men), while in women category KAVC have won a record eight times.

“The club’s last double dates back to 1999. We badly need to experience that sweet atmosphere as a club again,” KAVC president Mofaht Masaba said Tuesday as the club received a Shs25m sponsorship package from NSSF.

So it’s apparent interest is on the double.
