Scores Injured In Bus Accident

18 passengers were injured in the wee hours of this morning in an accident involving a bus belonging to Discovery Coaches at Minakulu, along the Kampala-Gulu highway 40Kilometers South of Gulu town.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson says the driver of the Gulu bound bus registration number UAP 741H lost control after one of the front tyres came off.
He says the bus veered off the road, fell on one side injuring dozens of travelers. Okema says majority of the travelers sustained cuts on their body from the broken windscreen.
He explains that eleven passengers were rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor where they are receiving treatment, which eight of the injured are being treated Gulu Regional Hospital.
Today’s accidents comes after another on the same road that claimed the lives of seven people and injured 20 others in August this year. The accident occurred after two buses plying the same route collided.
According to police reports, 30 people have been killed and 40 others injured in five separate accidents along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
Police blames most of the accidents on speeding, drunk driving, inconsiderate use of road and inexperiences among the drivers.
