Senior Mulago Nurse Stabs Husband, Steals UGX 17M
A senior nurse at Mulago hospital and a tutor at the Paramedical school has stabbed and stolen 17 million shillings from her husband and father of her three children.
Ms Evelyne Akoth is alleged to have used a house knife in the attempted murder of Mr George Omala with who they have been staying in Makerere – Kikoni a Kampala Suburb.
Mr Omala an engineer in Liberia had returned home to visit his wife and children two days earlier only for a conflict to emerge between him and the wife.
Police recorded a statement from the house maid who indicated that the disagreement that led to the stabbing was as a result of the husband accusing of the wife of stealing his money which he had been sending from Liberia for construction but there was no development.
The wife is alleged to have started accusing Mr Omala of cheating on her and overdrinking.
Mr Omala told police that when the woman realized that he was not going to give her the 17 million shillings as he had earlier planned for development of their house, a struggle ensued during which Ms Akoth grabbed a knife and stabbed him.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango said the suspect who is on the run picked the money which her husband had returned with from Liberia together with her things and escaped.
Police was called in by the neighbors who heard screams from the house and the victim whose blood was oozing from the neck was rushed to Case clinic for immediate attention and is still admitted at the Kampala based clinic.
Police found the victim on the floor of the house in a pool of blood with the housemaid standing a few matters from her boss in shock.
A team of detectives at Wandegeya police and the homicide department of police based at Kibuli Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Directorate (CIID) headquarters has already been dispatched in search of the suspect.
