Taxi Burnt as Fire Guts Parking Yard

Ahmed Ntulume, a local businessman in Nansana, a Kampala suburb is counting loses after fire gutted his parking yard.
The fire is believed to have started from a chicken house at about 2am before spreading to the public parking yard, destroying a taxi registration number UAT 298T and slightly damaging three other vehicles. The fire also burnt several chicken and goats.
David Bukenya, the caretaker of the parking says he noticed the fire at the chicken house and raised an alarm, which attracted residents. He says they managed to rescue more than 20 vehicles.
Cotilda Nandutu, the Officer in charge of Nansana police station estimates the damage at over 20 million shillings. She however, says a lot of property was saved because of the quick response by residents.
Charles Lwanga, whose taxi was destroyed completely, believes the fire could have started from Petrol, which was being stored in the chicken house together with old tyres. Lwanga says all they want is for the parkyard owner to compensate them.
However, Ahmed Ntulume the proprietor of the parking yard denies the allegations. He however, doesn’t rule out malicious damage.
The fire comes barely a month after the sudden death of Ntulume’s wife. On Sunday, Ntulume and his relatives converged to hold funeral rites for his deceased wife whose identity wasn’t readily available by the time of filing this story.
