Ugandan Envoys Accused Of Shunning Opposition Leaders

Uganda’s Ambassadors have been accused of shunning opposition leaders whenever they visit their countries of deployment.
Jack Wamai Wamanga, the shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs raised the accusation yesterday saying the envoys are more NRM than Ugandan.
Wamai singled out the Uganda Embassy in New York for shunning Democratic Party President Norbert Mao when he paid a courtesy call there during one of his trips to New York.
He advised that persons appointed ambassadors are supposed to represent all nationals regardless of political affiliation. The ambassadors were today in parliament for a scheduled interaction with the foreign affairs committee of parliament.
However this accusation was dismissed in totality by the ambassadors saying that they serve all Ugandans in their respective countries of deployment.
Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nduhura Richard said Ugandan envoys have served the interest of all Ugandans and have interacted with all Ugandans irrespective of their party affiliations at the respective embassies.
He said he was not aware of reports that Democratic Party President Norbert Mao was shunned when he visited Uganda’s embassy in New York.
Ugandan Ambassador to Otawwa, Canada J. C Alintuma Nsambu equally dismissed the allegation saying they accepted to put their political differences aside the moment they accepted the appointment to join the diplomatic core.
Akello Grace, Uganda’s Ambassador to Italy-Rome noted that it would be unfair and unrealistic for opposition leaders to be shunned by their country’s embassy.
