UPDF boss’s wealth shocks colleagues
WO1 Moses Tugume Musinguzi, a UPDF soldier whose marriage is on verge is a rich man at least by Ugandan standards. His wealth can be envied by top UPDF bosses including generals yet he is a mere WO1, says a source who has seen him for some time.
We recently reported how Moses and his Karamojong soldier wife Cpl Jessica Joyce Akech are no longer seeing eye to eye and divorce may soon become the last option.
However, if this path is taken, it means even their wealth will be divided.
The couple has two kids together but Moses, who is soon approaching 60s has other kids who number about 15 from different women.
Some are in Uganda, others in Central Africa.
Four of the kids have since started their own families after dropping out of school at a time when their father was struggling.
But the lucky ones now go to Kampala International University, Mbarara Municipal P/S, Sacred Heart Mushanga, Plus Two High School, Kibingo girls and Comboni College in Lira.
And he has not stopped because his latest additions are former maid-Shaison and Janet Katushabe, a fellow soldier. On the weekend you will find him in Mbarara with Shaison and on weekdays at Bombo with Janet. No time for Jessica who is always in and out of hospital.
WEALTH
His rank (WO1) guarantees him a basic salary of shs500,000. He is not like other soldiers who join the army with some qualifications (certificate, diploma, degree etc) to earn him some allowance.
However, he has managed to keep most of his kids in school and his wives. Sources say life turned around when he curiously joined the logistics department at Bombo army barracks.
Some friends say he never possessed any qualification in logistics areas at the time he joined. It is not clear how he ended up there but this is a story for another day.
“His wealth can be envied by top UPDF bosses including generals yet he is a mere WO1,” said a close friend who has seen him for some time.
In case he decides to divorce Jessica, here is what he will be sharing with her and their two children.
Most of their businesses (bar, stationery and others) go by the MOSCA brand which translates into Moses and Jessica.
They have a matrimonial home in Bubaare, Kashaari, Mbarara district.
They have a storied commercial building at Bubaare Sub County. They have also got various Banana plantations which they bought between 2018 and 2022 from different people in Bubaare valued at about shs200m in total. The couple has over 150 goats, 80 pigs and 50 cows which are kept on a 2 square mile farm in Bubaare.
They have also got two cars both Noah (new and old models) among other properties.
Moses hails from Kyabugimbi Sub-County, Igara, Bushenyi District.
After their wedding in 2017, the couple relocated to Mbarara district. They bought land at Rugarama 1, Bubaare,Kashaari County. It’s here where they built a matrimonial home.
Family sources say Jessica accuses Tugume of offside romps and abandoning her for other women.
We are told that whereas Tugume is aware of Jessica’s health conditions (which we shall keep confidential) he has spent over two years without attempting to see her despite being in and out of hospital.
“Tugume is responsible for Jessica’s health predicament but he decided to abandon her for other women. He does not call her nor send any help,” said a family source.
Jessica’s family members are worried that even if she dies today, Moses may not bury her at the matrimonial home in Bubaare-Kashaari, Mbarara. He may instead take her body to her ancestral home in Abim-Karamoja where he built for her a house despite the couple owning so many properties together in Mbarara.
To make life difficult, her car has been taken away and given to the new woman-Katushabe who always torments her via WhatsApp and Tiktok social media platforms. All her businesses have also been reportedly closed by Moses. There has been an even attempt to evict her from their matrimonial home but this is a story for another day.
Families from both sides are trying to convince the couple to forgive each other but Jessica still has reservations, according to a knowledgeable family source.
