Vodafone Uganda has partnered with Liverpool Football Club and will activate the partnership through its Liverpool FC International Football Academy, conducting a football clinic for more than 400 kids between 5 and 12 years in Kampala.
The 10-day adrenalin packed programme, which will be headlined by John Barnes, one of Liverpool FC’s and England’s greatest legends, is designed to develop the potential of every child that attends and provide an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
A coaching development session has also been included in the camp’s activities.
Vodafone CEO Allan Richardson said, “At Vodafone we are all about empowering people and communities. This partnership will give aspiring young footballers in Uganda with a dream to become world class football players, the opportunity to be coached by one of the world’s most famous football clubs – Liverpool FC – plus a once-in-a-lifetime chance to interact with John Barnes, one of the biggest stars of English football.”
“The football camp and visit of John Barnes between April 30 and May 2 also provides the brand an opportunity to connect with its customers and share their passion and interests,” Mr Richardson said.
He adds that John Barnes will be at selected Vodafone outlets where he will engage with Vodafone customers and fans.
In addition, there will be assorted co-branded items to be won for purchases of Vodafone products and services from April 15 to June 30 2016.
John Barnes said: “We are thrilled to be extending our programme to Uganda. The fundamental principle of the programme is to provide a unique Liverpool FC experience to local players both on and off the pitch. Our highly skilled coaches are committed to delivering coaching sessions that encourage young, talented and aspiring players to excel and learn in a fun and safe environment.”
“Our overall aims are to bring LFC to our young fans around the world and to demonstrate just how special our football club is. We have a very special philosophy which is well known by our players, staff, fans and is recognized all over the world.”
“The characteristics of playing ‘The Liverpool Way’ were no more evident than during the 2005 Champions League final. Team spirit, hard work, determination and the ability to overcome any obstacles in life and above all play with dignity and fair play…. these are all the values and characteristics we look for in our players,” he added.
During his visit, John Barnes will also be hosted at a viewing party with the Liverpool FC Fans Club for the Swansea v Liverpool FC English Premiership game on Sunday, April 30 at Riders Lounge in Kololo.
LFC International Academy Programme commences April 27 to 7 May, 2016 at the Hockey pitch at the Lugogo National Hockey Stadium.
