Woman Arrested For Marrying Off Underage Daughter
Police in Bugiri is holding a 45 year old woman for allegedly marrying off her 12 year old daughter.
Mary Akoth, a resident of Bunangabo village Budhaya Sub County in Bugiri district was reportedly lured by a cash offer of 35,000 shillings to marry off her 12 year old daughter to a one Juma Kasaja.
According toYakubu Dhaye, the LC one chairman of Bunangabo village, the victim who has been married for two weeks so far is now the third wife to Kasaja.
Akoth was arrested yesterday after the two other house wives alerted local council officials about the presence of s juvenile in their home.
The officer in charge CID at Bugiri central police station, Emmanuel Gumisiriza said the accused is to soon appear before court answer charges of marrying off an underage girl.
Gumisiriza expressed concern over the increase in cases of parents who marry off their underage daughters in order to get money besides demanding for bribes from defilement suspects to have them set free.
