China’s Linglong Offers $50,000 In First Year To Uganda National Basketball Teams

Chinese leading tyre company, Linglong Tires on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) for a sponsorship package that will run for two years.
The partnership, which will see financial and material assistance extended to Uganda’s national basketball team, is the first of its nature on the entire African Continent.
‘We are very grateful for the offer and we promise a healthy working relationship with our new partners on the block and all those others we have been working with’ remarked FUBA President Ambrose Tashobya.
The offer will run for two years and includes logistical assistance to the two national teams, travel and the necessary allowances to officials and players.
The ceremony took place at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Saturday before Team Uganda played their Kenyan counterparts in a buildup game.
It was attended by Minister of state or Sports Hon Charles Bakkabulindi, former Basketball player and head of FUBA, now Minister of Disaster Preparedness, Hilary Onek.
The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda His Excellence Mr. Zhao Yali and the Director Shandong Linglong Tire Company Ms. Merry Wang also witnessed the ceremony.
The boost comes at a perfect time for the basketball fraternity Uganda is preparing for the Zone five Africa Nations cup and All Africa Games qualifiers to be hosted in Kampala tentatively 15th-21st July.
