COVID-19: Arua, Moyo districts unlocked, Nebbi next

Arua – Ministry of Health has, at last, lifted Arua and Moyo from the list of lockdown districts.
State minister of health for Primary Health care, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu discloses to Red Pepper Digital in a telephone interview on Friday night.
She says the ministry has written declaration letters to Taskforce Chairpersons of the two districts to effect the directives from Saturday.
“We have decided to unlock these two districts after our review of no secondary community transmissions of COVID19 in the last two weeks, and therefore accordingly unlock them immediately. The ministry of health issued letters on 10th July 2020 to the Chairperson of Taskforces of Moyo District and Arua City as well as District, with immediate effect from Saturday 11th July 2020, to unlock for business, but maintain the procedures set up.” noted Dr Moriku discloses to Red Pepper digital.
The unlocking of the two border districts and a city, comes at a time when cases of corona virus are going down in the country.
In the letter, the ministry of health thanks the taskforces for the commitment, dedication, leadership and guidance to the public during this lockdown.
According to the minister, the clearance letter to unlock Nebbi district is underway pending endorsement.
“Arua, Moyo and Nebbi is unlocked but instrument or letter for Nebbi is not yet out” the minister tipped to Red Pepper digital.
Government of Uganda has for sometime been reviewing the lockdown over 13 border districts over the emergency of new COVID19 community cases and adherence to the standard operational procedures put in place like wearing of face mask, hand washing and sanitizing at work places and office.
Yumbe, Koboko and Maracha districts were earlier unlocked but remained technical under lockdown to Kampala city due to Arua and Nebbi districts on one route, Moyo and Adjumani on the other side.
The imminent opening of Nebbi, is seen as a relief to the entire West Nile region as a gateway to Kampala city and other parts of the country.
