Fred Kayemba, a resident of Kyazanga town council in Lwengo district, has been arrested for reportedly pouring hot water onto his wife Prosy Tukamuhebwa after a domestic brawl.

The fight between the couple started after Tukamuhebwa reportedly asked Kayemba to buy her clothes for Easter festivities. Kayemba refused and Tukamuhebwa accused him of wasting his money on alcohol and loose women.

Kayemba started beating up Tukamuhebwa before grabbing a saucepan of hot water on a charcoal stove and pouring it on her.

Tukamuhebwa’s screams of pain attracted neighbours who called the police. Police arrested Kayemba as he attempted to flee the scene of the crime.

Edward Mulera, the criminal investigations officer at Kyazanga police station, says that police rushed Tukamuhebwa to hospital where she is hospitalized with severe wounds.

Mulera urged couples to find more peaceful means of resolving marital disagreements instead of resorting to violence.

Mulera said that Kayemba might be charged with attempted murder.

However, Kayemba denied pouring hot water on his wife.
