Indian school children hold candles at the vigil for the rape victim

Police has released on bond an Indian man alleged to have raped an 18 year old woman in Soroti town.

Rauji Pindoria Vishran (42) who works with Ambitious Construction Company was arrested last Thursday after the victim who worked for the company as a cleaner reported the matter to Soroti Police station.

Rauji was released on Police bond on Monday afternoon.

According to the victim’s statement, she alleged that Rauji lured her into an isolated room in the building under construction in Soroti secondary school and raped her.

Juma Hassan Nyene, the Police Public Relations Officer East Kyoga, said that that they released Rauji because he had spent more than the mandatory 24hours for a suspect to be produced in the courts of law.

Nyene added that Rauji’s file is ready and it has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for sanctioning.

The file case number is CRB: 2620/2013 and Nyene said that they will act following the advice from the resident state attorney.

Nyene noted that once the file is sanctioned by the resident state attorney then Rauji will be forwarded to the courts of law.

President Museveni has on several occasions voiced support that convicted rapists should face the death penalty and those suspected should be denied bail while their cases are investigated.
