Richard Muhangi, the Chairman, CAD Kampala Chapter, in his message, praised Makaaru, for being a strong supporter and pillar as far as the quest for Central Ankole Diocese was concerned.

He said the late Makaaru was a strong Christian of the revival movement who could speak his mind. “He participated in the building of Christianity in Sheema and the building of Churches in our Community, especially Butsibo CoU,” he said.

He said that Makaaru represented Butsibo Church in the Synod and Diocesan Council for over thirty years. He was the Head of Laity for West Ankole Diocese for over Fifteen Years.

In 1994 he was one of the Christians who wrote a letter to the then Bishop of West Ankole requesting for the Creation of the Central Ankole Diocese. He even went ahead to support the development of infrastructure at Kabwohe hill in readiness for welcoming Central Ankole Diocese.

“When he wanted something he would make sure that it’s achieved. He fought against injustices in the Church and in particular in 2013, he was one of the Christians who took courage and stood firm against those, whose manipulative ideas went against dividing christians in doing God’s work by serving at Synod because of attaining the age of 70 years,” he added. He said the members will remain united man United in honor of Makaru’s legacy by continuing to work for the church.

The members contributed Shs4m as condolences. The burial ceremony was led by West Ankole Diocese Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni, who said West Ankole had problems but these problems are now being solved.

He told CAD members to go ahead with preparations for the diocese adding that the verification committee will submit its report to the Synod which in turn will report to the Provincial Assembly for a final say. He said the priorities for WAD now include the hospital in Katungu and the university in Kabwohe.
