Three Held Over Murder In Lyantonde

Police are holding three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of Velino Kalitesi, a resident of Kiyinda trading centre in Kaliro Sub-county about 16km from Lyantonde town.
Kalitesi was dragged from his on Wednesday at around 5:30am and hacked to death. The killers slit the throat of the deceased and placed a huge stone on his head.
Yosamu Mutungi, a neighbor to Kalitesi says they were called to the home of the deceased in the morning only to find his body lying in a pool of blood.
Residents suspect that the assailant could have trailed their victim from a local drinking joint belonging to Allen Kirabo.
George Niwamanya, the LC I chairperson Kiyindi village that they have not yet established the motive behind the murder saying the deceased had not grudge with anyone.
Niwamanya says five other people have been attacked and killed on the village since this year begun. Police has picked up three residents in connection with the murder. Denis Byamukama one of the suspects was tracked down with the help of a sniffer dog.
The other suspects are Scovia Kyomuhendo, the deceased’s wife and Allen Kirabo, the local bar owner where Kalitesi spent the fateful night.
Robert Tuhabwe, the Lyantonde District CID Officer says the attackers wanted Kalitesi’s life because they did not take anything from his house.
Tuhabwe explains that the deceased has been staying alone because his children are away at school while his wife Scovia Kyomuhendo abandoned him for his habitual drinking. He says they have launched investigations to establish the motive of the murder.
He says a police file number SD 09/25/06/2014 has been opened at Lyantonde Police station as investigations are ongoing.
Tuhabwe says the suspects will be arraigned in court to face murder charges once investigations are complete. However, the accused persons have denied any connection to the murder of Kalitesi.
Byaruhanga says the deceased was his good friend and could not do anything to harm him let alone take his life. Kirabo says the deceased was her regular patron and couldn’t do anything to lose him.
The murder of Kalitesi comes barely two days after a similar attack in Kisunku Village in Lwankoni Sub-county in Rakai district, in which a 21-year-old woman Stella Kyomuhwezi was killed and four other family members badly injured.
