the  Commonwealth Games due July 23- August 3 in Glasgow, Scotland has been given a boast after Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) President Kenneth Gimugu vowed to do everything to make sure that the national boxing team, the Bombers get enough preparations.

The National Open is on in February and will be used to pick five pugilists to represent the country that had no boxers at the previous Commonwealth Games held four years ago in New Delhi, India.

“The World Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria in April will be our first high profile international test,” Gimugu told a local daily.

“We have the boxers. There are very many talented boys out there,” Gimugu had said in earlier interview.

Gimugu’s  election marked an end to the protracted wrangles that miraculously failed to earn the country a ban from world boxing body – AIBA.

Gimugu and his team are now bent on reviving the sport that has won Uganda the highest number of Olympic medals (four). “We are on the drawing board.”
