Ugandan Journalist Rugyendo To Feature In Al Jazeera Tutu Documentary

Qatar based International Television Al Jazeera English will on Thursday begin airing documentary series about the 2012 Archbishop Tutu Leadership program. The screening of the documentaries will go on for the next four weeks.

Ugandan Journalist and Red Pepper Publications’ Chief Marketing Officer Arinaitwe Rugyendo who is also a Fellow of the Tutu Leadership program is expected to feature in the series that will showcase to the world Africa’s emerging leaders also known as the Tutu Fellows.

The Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship is the flagship program of the African Leadership Institute (AfLI) founded in 2003 with Archbishop Tutu as its patron.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu is the retired South African Anglican Bishop who has been an advocate of peace and justice his whole life, unofficially leading millions without ever holding political office.

It is awarded annually to 20-25 outstanding young Africans between the ages of 25 and 40 who are expected to become leaders in their fields during the next decade and offer solutions to Africa’s problems.

“You are blessed with the talents of leadership but with these, come enormous responsibilities. I hope you are prepared to take up the challenge.” – Archbishop Desmond Tutu told the Fellows in an earlier address.

The Fellows of this annual program have had the chance to learn from internationally acclaimed leaders who have included President Kikwete of Tanzania, Dr Donald Kaberuka, Mrs. Graca Machel, Baroness Lynda Chalker, Lord Patten and Dr. Mamphela Ramphele among others.

The documentary titled ‘Tutu’s Children’ will be airing today on Al Jazeera at 2000 hrs (11pm Ugandan Time) and will highlight the incredible work being done across the continent by the emerging leaders selected for the 2012 Tutu Fellowship Program.

It will also follow Tutu’s 23 person-strong 2012 class, concentrating in particular detail on the lives of five very different participants, as together they are prepared to become a ‘moral task force’ for Africa.
