Police in Kabale district is holding a UPDF Soldier suspected of murdering a 65 year old woman with whom he wrangled over land.

Julius Mugisha(42) attached to Singo Army Barracks has been arrested alongside his accomplice Gisagara Jean Veane (44). They are jointly charged with the murder of Margret Katete, a resident of Kayebe cell, Kigara parish in Kamwezi Sub County, Kabale district.

They are said to have committed the crime on the 18th of January 2014 night at Kabuhinja’s cattle farm near Wisdom Primary school. The deceased’s body was found next to a foot path completely naked with both arms tied with a piece of cloth.

Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate  said that preliminary investigations into the murder indicate that the soldier had land wrangles with the deceased with whom they were related.

In a related incident, police is holding a 64 year old man Deziderio Bangibakanya on charges of killing his wife identified as Edith Bikorwa.

The suspect and the deceased are residents of Rwabuhingwa cell Bwayu parish in  Nyamweru sub county – Kabale district.

It’s alleged that on 18th of January 2014 at around 8:00pm, the two developed a quarrel and the man locked her in the house setting it ablaze.

The suspect attempted to escape but was arrested by the locals who handed him over to the police.

The Police picked the deceased’s remains and took them for a postmortem at Kabale regional referral hospital before handing them over to the family for burial.
