A strong East Africa Community must be built on meaningful integration, Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda said this while meeting youth in Kampala.

Dr Rugunda made the remarks today while meeting 70 youth from Uganda and Rwanda at Office of the President Conference hall.

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda challenged the youth of East Africa to champion the integration process.

“As you go around the region meeting heads of states, make sure you talk about the strong foundation”.

He said Africa was greatly affected by colonialism through balkanisation,exploitation,plunder and attacks which greatly weakened the Continent.

He noted that the youth of East Africa have an opportunity to play a catalytic role in the integration process.

The youth are also expected to meet leaders in Kenya and Tanzania ahead of their meeting with the Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly to discuss issues affecting the youth and also hand over petition asking EAC member states to ratify the African Charter on Democracy,Elections and Governance.

The youth also want the East African youth council to be established.The youth were led by Aber Lilian,Chairperson National Youth Council.
