Kampala – The Former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Mr Ephraim Kamuntu has lost a son, a renowned top banker, to the novel coronavirus.

Reports reaching this site indicate that Henry Ruchwere Kamuntu, the Head of Power and Infrastructure at Stanbic Bank Uganda, has succumbed to COVID-19.

A source close to the family intimated that the flamboyant banking executive was admitted as showing symptoms of the deadly virus.

“Ruchwere has been in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at TMR International Hospital for close to a fortnight after showing signs of corona. We have lost a gallant fellow and son,” said a grieving relative (names withheld on request)

Ruchwere was instrumental in Stanbic Bank’s initiative to finance investors in Uganda’s oil and gas sector amidst growing opposition against fossil fuels including oil and gas in favour of renewable energy.

This followed the signing of the East African Crude Oil Pipe Line (EACOP) project between the governments of the Republic of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania and other key sectoral stakeholders like Total E&P.
