Uganda Cranes tactician Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has disclosed that they have missed a chance to have an international friendly match against Benin.
Sredojevic told AfricanFootball.com that the Benin team was ready to have a stop over in Uganda and play one game before flying to Malawi whom they will play in a 2015 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.
He said although he would have been glad as a coach to have this game, the Ugandan FA did not have finances to meet some of the costs for the Benin team.
The Coach said they will now rely on the training but miss out on getting tested on the pitch ahead of the return leg clash against Mauritania.
The team who resumed training last week are expected to shift to the artificial Njeru Training centre on Tuesday which has a similar play ground which will be used in Mauritania.
Senegal camp abondoned, Museveni eases travel
Cranes have abandoned plans to have a training camp in the Senegalese capital Dakar because of a lack of funds.
Moses Magogo, the FUFA President, over the weekend said that although they had planned for the team to camp in Dakar so that all the other professional players fly straight there, they simply do not have the funds to organise the event.
Magogo, who had called on the government to come and rescue the national team, said they could not afford over US$60,000 to pay for the training camp in Dakar. “We cannot take the team there because we do not have the money,” he added.
However, HE. General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has agreed to fund the two upcoming away matches of the national teams-Cranes and Uganda Cubs (U-17 team) after Magogo cried to the government for the support towards the teams. Both leave the nation on Thursday.
Midfield boast as Mawejje, Aucho return
The return of midfielders Aucho, from suspension, and Mawejje (after sorting his club issues) will galvanize Uganda in Nouakchott, according to coach Micho. But in another development, the striking department has been hit with news of Emma Okwi being ruled out with a groin problem but URA forward Robert Ssentongo comes in to replace him.
Elsewhere, Baba Kizito, Godfrey Walusimbi (Gor Mahia), together with another Kenya-based star Aucho were expected in the country Sunday night.
Mawejje and Geoffrey Massa are expected in Kampala today while Kizito Luwaga (Portugal), Dennis Onyango (South Africa) and Moses Oloya (Vietnman) on Tuesday.
Uganda need to just avoid defeat or lose marginally to progress to the group stages of the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers.
Four-time African champions Ghana, Togo and Guinea await Uganda in Group E should the Cranes successfully complete the task in Nouakchott.
