UPDF Takes Over KCCA To Battle Typhoid Outbreak
UPDF also participated in the fight of Typhoid outbreak in Kampala
Uganda Peoples Defense Forces has deployed medical officers to four typhoid fever treatment centers to help reinforce a team of government medical officers who are currently grappling with the escalating typhoid cases.
Gen Edward Katumba Wamala the Chief of Defense Forces while visiting Kisenyi treatment center accompanied by the Executive director Kampala City Council Authority Jenifer Musisi Ssemakula said the deployment starts today Wednesday at various treatment centers in and around Kampala.
Gen Wamala said the defense forces department of public health has mobilized a team of medical personnel led by Dr Kusasira and said the team will work with KCCA health team until the deadly fever is over come.
Kisenyi health center has been grappling with high influx of typhoid patients with few facilities to accommodate the patients and lack of enough health workers to treat high magnitudes.
Kampala capital city authority Executive Director Jenifer Musisi told red Pepper online that the KCCA directorate of public health has also opened Kisigu, Kitebi and Kiswa and Kisenyi health centers to act as centers for treating the escalating numbers of typhoid patients.
Musisi said with assistance from the UPDF medical team the fever will be defeated very soon and advised people to maintain proper hygiene.
“The public is advised to avoid eating cold foods, vegetables, fruits and drink safe water from reliable sources. The public is further advised to wash hands with soap and water before as eating”. Musisi advised.
According to the ministry of health about 700 people in and around Kampala district have contracted the fever and 513 have been admitted at Kisenyi health center 1V following the outbreak.
Typhoid which is an acute fever associated with bacteria from a group called Salmonella broke out in Kampala down town at Qualicel bus terminal, Nabukera plaza and Total petrol station on Namirembe road last month among people who work there leaving two dead.
