CWG|Edwin Ekiring, Tukire Dumped Out Badminton
If the size of a sport was determined by the hard work that goes into it, then badminton would be up there in Uganda but our number one seed Edwin Ekiring was dealt with a big blow when he was beaten by India’s R.V Gurusaidutt at the Commonwealth Games Wednesday night in straight sets to miss the last 16 at the Emirates Arena.
Ekiring (born 22 December 1983)fell 21-13, 21-11 the Indian in half an hour. The defending was Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who won in 2006 and 2010. This year, Lee withdrew from the tournament due to an injury.
The day even worse for Ekiring and his partner Wilson Tukire when they were easily overcame by a New Zealand combination of Leydon-Davis and Dennerly-Minturn in the men’s round of 32 doubles where the Ugandan pair would have come up against a top Welsh pair.
It also didn’t go well for squash players Michael Kawooya and Paul Kadoma as they were thrashed 2-0 by Wales in the men’s doubles opening round.
However,Team Uganda’s squash representatives Kevin Mafabi, Lydia Nantunga and Aminah Lukaaya also each managed one victory out of two in their opening singles clashes.
