Foreign athletes at the forthcoming Africa Cross-Country Championships will not pay for visa fees after the government waived them to encourage participating countries send more runners.

Ugandan visa fees cost as much as $50 (Shs123,000) and Uganda Athletics Federation general secretary Beatrice Ayikoru believes the incentive by Ministry of Internal Affairs is a reliever to the more than 300 runners who are expected from over 20 countries.

We are grateful for their (Internal Affairs ministry) quick response, the participation is bound to increase,” Beatrice Ayikoru says.

The continental showpiece is slotted for March 16 event at Kololo Airstrip as Uganda bids to host the 2017 World Cross Country Championships.
